- This work deals with freezing and moisture controlled heat for eradicating insects attacking museum textiles. The theoretical part includes a literature report of a selection of important species infesting proteinaceous materials, describing their exterior appearances, temperature behaviour, living conditions and lethal temperatures. Furthermore, the effect of temperature treatments and their application are described. The practical part makes use of physical and mechanical methods to examine possible alterations of animal fibres after temperature treatment. For these investigations recent and artificially aged wool and silk fabrics as well as naturally aged textiles were used. The results indicate no significant changes after a temperature treatment.
