Résumé
  • The Getty Conservation Institute initiated the publication of this book, recognizing the need for a public forum on conservation issues. The purpose of this book is to stimulate dialogue within the profession and, at the same time, to acquaint the public with the philosophies and efforts of those seeking to preserve the cultural heritage.
  • This publication was presented at the 14th General Conference of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) held in Buenos Aires, Argentina in October 1986. It was inspired by and a complement to an exhibition prepared by the ICOM Conservation Committee for this conference.
  • The author, Mr. Philip Ward, Director of the Information and Extension Services Division, Canadian Conservation Institute, is a distinguished scholar; his participation in this project was made possible by the cooperation of the Canadian Conservation Institute.
