Résumé
The bell and bellpipe of a trumpet by Sterner of Nürnberg are described. Making the instrument playable involved cleaning and reassembling of the existing parts and the reconstruction of missing yards and bows using historical practices. The over-restoration of instruments from public and private collections is discussed. A case is made for conservative treatment of brass instruments.
