- Enter the operating principle. Enter information not already fully described in other fields. Use natural word order. Use complete sentences. Use sentence case and capitalize proper names. Avoid abbreviations. Write the Operating Principle in the language of the catalogue record. Use diacritics as appropriate. All information that is in the Operating Principle and is required for retrieval should also be indexed in appropriate fields elsewhere in the record.
- Cataloguers rules
- Do not confuse the Operating Principle (OPR) field with the History of Use (HU) field. The Operating Principle field contains a brief description of the operating mechanisms of the object, whereas the History of Use field contains information on the different uses of the object.
