  • Born Alexander Colville, 1920, Toronto, Ontario. At seven moved to St. Catherines, Ontario and two years later to Amherst, Nova Scotia. In 1938 enrolled in Fine Arts Department of Mount Allison University, Sackville, New Brunswick. Graduated in 1942

  • Romain de Tirtoff (Erté) est né à Saint-Pétersbourg, en 1892. Il entreprit sa carrière à Paris, en tant que dessinateur de mode où il travailla avec Paul Poiret. Au cours de sept décennies, Erté a créé des costumes et décors de scène pour pièces de théâtre, opéras, ballets et films, à Paris, à New York et à Hollywood. Il a également consacré une partie de sa vie à créer des bijoux, tissus, lithographies, décors intérieurs, etc. En 1974, Erté se tourna vers un nouveau genre, la sérigraphie. En outre il fit des sculptures et des lithographies d'où se dégage un style tout à fait propre à cet artiste. On retrouve les oeuvres d'Erté dans les grandes collections publiques et privées.
