- This field contains additional details on the provenance of objects. It may include details on known owners, dates of ownership, places of ownership, and method of transfer (sale, gift, bequest, etc.) for the object. It may also include lot numbers, auction catalogue references, buyers, etc. Enter the provenance notes chronologically, in the same order that events were recorded in the Provenance (PRV) field.

- This field was added in 2015. It is intended to enable museums to record data on the provenance of holocaust-era cultural property, in the hopes that this information would assist researchers to identify works which may have gaps in their provenance. However, this field may be of use to any museum that wishes to share provenance information.
- Entry rules
- Enter detailed information associated with the provenance event. A semicolon and a space should separate multiple entries.
- Cataloguers rules
- See also, Provenance (PRV). Each entry in the Provenance Notes field must have a corresponding entry in the Provenance field, to provide basic information on the provenance event. In this case, end the Provenance field entry with a number in brackets, and identify the associated Provenance Notes field entry starting with the same number in brackets (see Examples). If only basic information is available, use the Provenance field instead of the Provenance Notes field.
