Spectrum is a British standard for collections management. Museums all over the world use the standard, whether for daily activities, such as moving objects and updating location records, or for occasional activities, such as updating insurance coverage.

Thanks to a partnership agreement with Collections Trust, the Canadian Heritage Information Network (CHIN) has translated Spectrum 5.0, the latest version of the standard, into French. CHIN recommends that Canadian museums use Spectrum 5.0. It includes 21 procedures as well as diagrams and steps to follow to facilitate collection management in museums.

It should be noted that the translation was not adapted to a Canadian context. In terms of contacting certain organizations, for example, they provide British references. Canadian museums should look for comparable organizations in their province or territory.

Spectrum 5.0 is free to download on the Collections Trust website, or a hard copy can be purchased from their online shop.
