Description: | Black and ecru silk handkerchief. This handkerchief has a diamond pattern with a large, black diamond -- composed of smaller, black diamonds -- in the center of the square, surrounded by small, ecru diamonds. |
Narrative: | The handkerchief belonged to Ruby McCleave Fulton 1867-1912 of Fort Ellis, Nova Scotia. The handkerchief is a square of fabric used for hygienic purposes or as a decorative accessory. Using a handkerchief has come to be known as old fashion and, especially in North America, as unhygienic. |
