Description: | Sheffield Silver Plate Teapot with a hinged lid. The top of the lid is made in a flower design and is held on with a wing nut. The handle has two rings of ceramic or glass inset into the handle at either end. There are chased and repousee designs partly like heads of wheat on the sides. The four feet are orante scrolls. |
Narrative: | This teapot was part of a silver service belonging to the Gow family. The donor resilvered it and then used it in demonstrations in her visits to schools teaching domestic science in the 1920s and 1930s. The donor was a graduate of Acadia in Domestic Science and was the daugther of Francis Alexander Roberts Gow of Ridgelands, Ridge Road Wolfville and sister of Mabel Dessie Roberts Gow. She had spinal meningitis as a child and was schooled at home until Grade 7. She died unmarried in 1984. The tea service was probably bought at auction by the donor's |
