Description: | A long, thin cardboard box. The top cover, the sides, and the edge of the bottom are covered in white paper. The top cover has a floral design on the front (green stems and leaves and purple flowers) and an image of a woman inside of a gold circle border. The woman is facing the side of the box, only half of her head s visable, has black hair, and is wearing two purple flowers over her ears and a low cut white top. Only the very top of the top is visable as the image cuts the rest of her off. The cardboard under the white paper is speckled brown, and is visable on the inside of both covers and the bottom of the bottom cover. Inside the top cover there is a sticker, "J.E. Hales and Co, Ltd, Wolfville, NS. |
Narrative: | J. Edward Hales (1867 -1943) was a merchant in Wolfville who initially joined his uncle O. D. Harris in business and eventually took over the enterprise. The shop was located near the present Post Office. |
History of Use: | Probably used to hold gloves or handkerchiefs. |
