Description: | Multicoloured patchwork and appliquéd quilt. In the centre of the quilt is a large hexagon composed of smaller hexagons. Each hexagon of 7 small hexagons is surrounded by a border of ivory hexagons. The large hexagon has been appliquéd to an ivory cotton top, and has a border of plaid fabric. On the outside of this border are partial hexagons. There are medium-sized hexagons (made up of 37 tiny hexagons). Four rows of colour go around the outside of the quilt. At each corner are seven hexagons joined together by white hexagons. The border is green triangles. In every corner is one small hexagon. The backing is ivory cotton, it is finely woven, it has been pieced together lengthwise and crosswise. It is very tightly woven at the top of the quilt. The quilt has been sewn wholly by hand with very tiny stitches that are almost indiscernible. See sketch on accession sheet. |
