Description: | A black and photograph of Marie Naisbitt (née Walton). She is wearing a dark coloured bonnet, with a light coloured collar and printed pattern bodice. _W. C. Sherman, Elm Street, Westfield, N. Y._ is printed on photograph. The photograph was in a cardboard frame (989.1.4e), which was covered in black velvet, with a oval opening framed by embroidered flowers. |
History of Use: | Marie Walton Naisbitt (1824-1888) was the mother of Eliza Ann Naisbitt Ireland, John Ireland's second wife. Marie Walton was born in 1824 in England. She died on 6 June 1888 at the age of 64. Marie was buried in Middleport Anglican Cemetary, Middleport, Ontario (located near Pauline Johnson's birthplace). According to Helen Caldwell, Marie went to Sunday School with Pauline Johnson. Marie married Bright Naisbitt, the son of George Naisbitt and Ann Ellison. He was born in 1813 and died on the 25 April 1872, when he was 59. They had 5 children together, all of whom survived. Eliza was the oldest. |
