Description: | A sepia coloured photograph of Lucy Springer Ireland in a folding cardboard frame. Her hair is pulled back and she is wearing a high collard blouse with a dark bodice. The bodice has slight decoration at the collar and has buttons. The photograph has a fading effect around Lucy's bust, with the photographer's signature in the proper left corner. |
History of Use: | Lucy Davis Springer (1885-1938) was the youngest of 14 children born to David Springer and Elizabeth Ghent, who lived on Highway 5 (Dundas Street). Lucy married George Ireland (1885-1972) in 1917. They had one daughter, Lucie Marie, in 1923. Lucy was an accomplished pianist, having earned her A.T.C.M. She taught piano and was always on call to accompany the local vocalists. She played the organ at St. John's Anglican Church on Highway 5. According to Helen Caldwell, Lucy suffered a stroke and was an invalid for four years before she passed away in 1938. |
