Description: This charcoal drawing of Bishop Mullock has been done of him wearing his full Bishop's regalia, including a large cross around his neck and a ring on his right ring finger. The drawing itself has been framed in a black and gold coloured frame, with a gold-coloured mat.
Narrative: While an exact date is not known for the production of this painting, it would not have been done until sometime after Sister French came to Newfoundland, most likely between 1855 and 1865. Bishop Mullock is wearing the Bishop's regalia, and he looks quite young, suggesting he may have posed for painting during the early years of his time as Bishop. This was not the only drawing that Sister French completed however, as she also did a drawing of Bishop Power which has a story attached to it that describes it as being so well done that 1,000 pencils were used in doing it. Also, this painting was offered to the Basilica Museum when it first opened, by the Mercy Sisters, and it has been in the Basilica Museum's private collection ever since.
History of Use: Originally hung in the Mercy Convent where it was drawn by Sister French, but was later donated to the Basilica Cathedral Museum by the Mercy Sisters when the museum first opened in 1991. Since then it has been housed in the Basilica Cathedral Museum's private collection, and was displayed in the museum the first year that it was open.
