Description: | Each of these copes are gold and red in colour, but the religious figures and gold clasps on the front of each is different. The back of each cope depicts a different image from the life of St. John the Baptist. The scenes themselves have been woven in silk, but the rest of each cope has been done in a different type of material. Additionally, the thread that has been used to sew the copes together has been made from actual gold. |
Narrative: | Designed for the Centenary Celebrations of the Consecration of the Cathedral in 1955. These Vestments were worn by the Archbishop and his two assistants when they were doing Benedictions. |
History of Use: | These three copes were worn by the Archbishop and his two assistants during the Benediction in the church service. These vestments were originally worn for the Centenary Celebrations, but may have also been used for larger celebrations. These vestments were most recently worn in 2005 by actors in church play entitled 'A Miracle in Stone. |
