Description : The bread is light brown with braided circles and doves decorating it. These are also made from bread. Other decorations include red flowers, pieces of wheat, and small leaves. There is an 'arch' extending from the top of the bread with two white bells hanging down from it.
Fonctions : This wedding bread was made for an anniversary celebration. These types of cakes were decorated with symbolic ornaments such as pinecones which symbolized fertility, and doves which symbolize peace, love faithfulness and prosperity. It was believed that the couple would enjoy more happiness with every dove that was included on the cake. The cakes were always decorated with green periwinkle leaves and also incorporated 'swirls'. The braided designs in the bread represented the image of wheat, and the colours yellow and blue were also important since they represented fields of wheat and the sky. This bread honoured the table at Nick and Mary Dowhaniuk's 65th Anniversary celebration which took place in at St. Josephats Hall on 97th Street and 107 Ave. in Edmonton, Alberta.
