| Description : | This is a sample of pillow lava found on the Baie Verte Peninsula, and it is black, green, brown and red in colour. It is roughly the size and shape of a small pillow. |
| Commentaires : | Originally formed between 460 and 515 million years ago when oceans water rapidly cooled lava, this pillow lava was found on the Baie Verte Peninsula near Betts Cove in the mid 1980's. This discovery was actually made during the making of the documentary "The Making of a Continent," produced by the CBC, BBC, and PBS televison networks. The name "pillow lava" comes from the occurance that when cooled, the lava is formed to roughly the same size and shape of a small pillow. |
