Description : | The Foundation Company Badges used in the Baie Verte Mines were gold-coloured, with The Foundation Company and each miner's own number. This badge's number is 400, and engraved in black letters on the front of the badge. This badge is displayed in a red storage case. |
Commentaires : | Each miner working for the Foundation Company had their own Foundation Company Badge that they would wear on the shirt. When a miner would show up at work every day, he would take his own number from the board and wear while down in the mine. At the end of the day, each miner would then take off their badge and place it back on the board, until they returned to work the next day. This was most effective when blasting was being done, as the board would be checked at the end of the day to make sure everyone was out of the mines. If a number was missing, blasting would be stopped until the mine could be checked, and whoever was missing could be safely brought out of the mine. |
Fonctions : | These badges would be worn on the miner's shirts whenever they would go into the mines, so that it would be possible to keep a tally of who was in the mine and who was not. This way, the Company would know when it was or was or was not safe to blast inside the mine, because if a badge was missing, they would know someone was still down in the mine. |
