Description : | This brass inkwell is dark gold and black in colour and made of brass. The base of the inkwell is circular in shape, with a raised outer edge, so any ink that spills will stay on the base of the inkwell. The upper-section of the inkwell, in which the ink would be poured, is wider on the bottom then on the top, and has a grooved design. The grooved design which would be useful for limiting the amount of ink that would drip onto the base of the inkwell, if any were spilled. |
Commentaires : | This inkwell was donated by Mrs. Pat Morry of Ferryland, Newfoundland in 1979, and was originally used in a hotel in London, England. Inkwells such as this one were used while writing with fountain pens. This was done by filling the inkwell with ink and then dipping the tip of a fountain pen into it, so the small reservoir on the tip of the pen could be filled with ink. The pen would then be used until the reservoir ran out of ink, at which point it would have to be refilled again. |
