Description : | This black and white photo is of a crew rowing in the racing shell know as the Glance, which was built by Robert Sexton. The photo was been framed in a light and dark brown wooden frame. Below the picture is a metal plaque with the following inscription: "Presented to the Royal St. John's Regatta In Memory of Robert Sexton. Presented by Granddaughter Amy Matthews, March, 1997." A handwritten note has also been placed inside the frame that reads: "Presented to one Robert Sexton by the Amateurs of the City Boat Club. In token of their recognition of his great success as the Builder of the Race Boat "Glance," which captured 8 out of 10 races at the Annual Regatta 1895. T. A. Stabb, L.G. Chafe, C.F. Taylor, T.W. Hayward, W.J. Martin, Fred Wood, W.H. Rennie. |
Commentaires : | This photo was presented to the Regatta Committee by Robert Sexton's granddaughter Amy Matthews in 1997. It had been originally presented to Mr. Sexton in 1895 by the Amateurs of the City Boat Club in recognition of the racing skull the Glance, which won 8 of 10 races that year. The crew pictured is coxswain F. A. Stabb, stroke L. G. Chafe, W. J. Martin, C. F. Taylor, Fred Wood, F. W. Hayward, and W. H. Rennie. |
