Description : | The artifact is a brown clock with a white face and black Roman numerals. The components are two hands, a pendulum, a bell, a weight and two keys. On the back of the clock the lettering reads "Large Gothic Extra." The manufacturer is " Waterbury Clock Company. |
Commentaires : | This clock was manufactured by Waterbury Clock Company. The company was formed on March 5, 1857. In 1922, Waterbury Clock Company purchased the Ingersoll operation, which was hit by the depression. In 1932, the firm was named Ingersoll-Waterbury Company. Mickey Mouse watches were made and electric clocks were added to the line. In 1942 the operation was purchased by a group of Norweigan investors and a new factory was built at Middlebury, CT. In 1944 the firm became known as "United States Time Corporation" and introduced the popular "Timex" watch shortly after the war. In November 1969, U.S. Times was succeeded by Timex Corporation, Middlebury, CT. |
