Description : | A round-shape sugar basin. It is pink with a gold strip around the edge and the picture. A black and white picture of St. John's with the harbour in the background is on the front of the basin. It is an older picture of St. Johns and "Harbour of St. John's, Newfoundland" is written beneath it. The picture on the basin was done by a process known as transfer printing. Transfer printing involved the application of oil and colouring oxide to a dish containing the design. Tissue paper was then pressed against the dish and the coloring oxide was transferred. The paper was then placed on another dish thus transferring the pattern. Black was one of the most common colours used in this process. |
