Description : The oil lamp has a brown iron base. The base is rectangle-shape with a raised decorative pattern. There is an orange tubular stand with a flower pattern attached to the base with a brass cylinder on the top that supports the font. The oil font is oval-shaped with a pattern and an opening at the top where a brass ring called a collar is cemented. Attached to the collar is a brass device called the burner with a raiser knob that adjusts the wick. The wick is a woven cotton ribbon, cord or cylinder that draws the oil into the burner from the font. The chimney holder is also attached to the rim of the burner. The chimney is long, oval-shape and made of clear glass. It provides proper air flow for a bright flame. Oil lamps were used in many households as a means to provide light until electricity became available.
