Description : A red sconce lamp with an oval-shape bottom attached to a rectangle-shape back with a hole in the top for hanging. The oil font is made of tin with a brass collar attached. The burner, with a wick raiser knob that adjusted the flame height, is attached to the collar. The metal device that supports the chimney, rests on the rim of the burner. The chimney is a glass tube that provides proper air flow for a bright flame. Kerosene oil was the fuel used in those lamps. The sconce lamp was made by Newfoundland tinsmiths and designed to hang on a wall or other suitable places in the fo'c'sle (forecastle) and hole of a sealing ship sailing out of Newfoundland.
