Description : The artifact consists of three different size pod augers. They are made of iron and are brown in colour. There is a hole at the top of each handle. The handle extends into a squrare shape shaft that has a grooved out semi-circle at the end of the auger. In making a vessel pump for a schooner it was positioned in the socket end of the boring shaft and used in boring the tunnel through the end of the stick. The pod auger was the first tool used when boring a hole. Larger tools (reamers) were used to make the hole bigger.
Commentaires : Pod Augers were so named for their resemblance to the pod in which peas form and grow. When the pod is opened, each half of the pod resembles the "Pod Auger." This tool is often erroneously called a "Pot Auger.
