| Description : | The artifact is a snatch block. It has a round wooden thimble with two iron hooks at the top. Snatch blocks were used to haul schooners onto a slipway. A rope was attached to the block with the boat on one end and a horse on the other end. The horse would then be able to pull the schooner out of the water and onto the slipway. These snatch blocks came into use around 1920. |
