Description : | A brown ax head with a hole to insert a handle. The blade is narrow and widens at the top. The square top which is called the poll was added as a weight to give more momentum to chopping. It could also be used for hammering. It is known as a Kent type and was used around 1780. Ax heads were made by folding an iron pattern and adding a steel wedge. Then the axe was hammered over a metal handle pattern until shaped and then welded. This process was used until the end of the 1800's. |
