Description : | This artifact is a gaff that was commonly used in the Newfoundland and Labrador fisheries. The gaff consists of two main parts, the wooden handle which has been hand carved and the steel hook which was at one point fairly sharp. The hook has been affixed to the smaller end of the shaft by a length of twine that has been tightly wrapped around both the hook and the shaft. |
