Description : | A brown square wooden box with a compass attached. The compass is made of brass with a glass centre over a rotating disk. Numbers in increments of ten are inscribed around the perimeter of the face. Directions NE, NW, SE and SW are marked in the center of the disk, as well as incremental marks between these directions. Above these directions is a dial in the center with the directions S, E and W . North is indicated by a fleur-de-lis. There is a brass ring around the middle of the compass that is bolted to the wooden box on four sides.The compass is held together by metal screws.The compass was used for navigation at sea. |
