Description : | The artifact is a long iron pit saw. It is wide at one end and narrow at the other and it has two handles. The upper handle is known as the "tiller" and the lower handle is known as the "box." Being flexible and whippy, accounts for these large saws to be known as a "whip saw." It was used in an open pit when sawing lumber. It was factory made and used in America until the late 1800's. This pit saw was used in Trinity until 1910. |
