Description : | The drawknife is brown and made of iron. It has a 8" cutting blade in the center with hand clearance on each side in a reverse curve. The iron tangs extend through wooden handles and are bent to prevent the handles from slipping off. This tool is referred to as a drawknife because it was pulled toward the body. Also called a shaving knife, it was used by a Cooper for many tasks. Sitting on a shaving horse or bench the cooper would smooth and trim shingles, peel strips of saplings for hoops, peel splint wood for baskets, etc. |
