| Description : | The artifact is a jack plane. It is a wooden rectangular block with a curved handle on the back. The plane has a square opening near the center for an iron blade or bit and a wooden wedge. The jack plane is a smaller bench plane and was used for leveling floors and roughing. It was handmade and the bit or iron was made from an old file. The bit is missing and J.F. is carved on the side. |
