Description : | The artifact is a brown moulding plane. The plane has a blade in the center that is held in place with a wedge. In woodworking, a moulding plane is a specialised plane used for making the complex shapes found in wooden mouldings. It was most commonly used by Carpenters and Coopers. |
Commentaires : | The plane is an improvement on the drawing knife. It is pushed away from the body rather than pulled toward it and far superior in workmanship. Planes were made of hard wood, walnut, oak, maple, cherry, apple, and others. Generally, planes can be separated into four basic types according to the function: beading, beveling, molding or smoothing. |
