Description : A brown dress jacket worn by Gilbert George Fowlow of Trinity East, NL who served in World War ll (1939-1945). He was with the 59th Newfoundland Heavy Regiment, Royal Artillery, 21st Battery. His service number was 971635. On the proper lower right sleeve is the Five Chevrons which indicate five years of service. On the proper lower left sleeve is the set of crossed flags which indicate that he was a Signaller. On the upper sleeves 'Newfoundland' is written above 'Royal Artillery.' The Crusaders' Shield is beneath which is the symbol of the British 2nd Army (Liberation Army). The sword in the centre of the Shield represents the Sword of Justice. Underneath, a narrow band of red and blue indicates Artillery. Its motto is "Ubique" meaning "Everywhere.
