Description : | A round brass pan with a cover and a long wooden handle attached. There is a hole in the cover. It was used to put hot embers in from an open fireplace and with the long handle moved the pan around, between the bed sheets, warming the bed. Hot water was sometimes used, with less risk of burning the bed sheets. Warming pans and the practice of using them, were introduced into Newfoundland from England. |
