Description : A brown chisel with a bevel blade and a socket-end to insert a handle. It is called the firming or forming chisel. It is the basic chisel design and did a great many jobs. One special use was to cut the superfluous wood from two auger holes to make a mortise. This tool is wood-handled (usually socketed) and was designed to be struck with a mallet. The socket-end can be struck bare, without the handle, though a good craftsman seldom did this.
