Description : | Eleven horse shoes of assorted sizes contained in a wooden box. They were used for protecting horses hooves. The shoeing of horses was done by a farrier or shoeing smith. The first horseshoes were called soft shoes because they were made of leather, broom corn, reeds and other vegetable fibers. But as the farriers art and knowledge grew many different kinds of weighted, wedged and built-up iron shoes were made to help protect the horses hooves. |
