Commentaires : | This work by Anthony Flower was originally part of a handmade book of paintings. Flower is well known for using images from the illustrated periodicals of the mid 19th century. This painting was inspired by The Wind on Shore - Painted by T. Creswick, A.R.A., Illustrated London News, July 6, 1850, page 25. Thomas Creswick (1811-1869) was an English landscape painter and illustrator who became a full member of the Royal Academy in 1850, the same year his The Wind on Shore was painted, appeared at the Royal Academy exhibition, and appeared in the ILN in relation to a story about the exhibition. The fact Anthony Flower chose this work indicates his continued interest in and knowledge of artists and artistic trends in England and Europe. |
