Description : | A painting by Flora Banks Gates of Nictaux, NS. Circa 1900. Painting titled "The Moustache Cup." 30 cm x 23 cm. Oil painting of a moustache cup sittingin its saucer on a placemat with two sugar cubes in the foreground. The moustache cup is white with gold rings around the top and yellow flowers. The placemat is white with red stripes around the outside. |
Commentaires : | Flora Marie Banks was born in Meadowvale, Nova Scotia . She married Hovey Gates and lived on the Albert Gates farm just across the bridge in Nictaux, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia. She took lessons from local art teacher Mrs. Gwillim at the Middleton school (later Macdonald Consolidated School), as did her daughter, Dorothy Janetta Gates Green. |
Fonctions : | Was used in Art Gallery exhibit for "Different Strokes from Valley Folks" in 2016 summer. The painting belonged to the artist's daughter, Reta Gates, who in turn left it to her nephew William Green, son of Dorothy Janetta Gates Green. |
