Commentaires : | Nita DesBarres was one of three daughters of Frederick and Nita DesBarres. Frederick was a Professor of History at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick. After his retirement in 1942 he relocated the family near to the town of Pictou. Little is known of Ms. DesBarres including where she studied or if she was self taught. She was known to be reclusive in nature and was the self proclaimed "Mad Potter of Pictou". She lived in her parent's home after their death in the Three Brooks area just outside of town until at least 1951. From 1966 to 1976 she owned a home on Denoon Street in Pictou and ran a mall shop selling her ceramics out of this location. She died at some time in the late 70's or early 80's and willed her body to the medical department of Dalhousie University in Halifax. There was no obituary. |
