Description : Wine decanter and six glasses, silver and wood. Decanter shaped like a bowling pin, metal base and wood top, rounded tip unscrews to allow wine to pour. Glasses rest upside down on round wooden bases, cup part silver, stem wooden. Small hole in stem base allows glass to fit over metal rod on circular wooden base (flip glass right side up) so that the liquid may be poured into the glass. Two of the glasses are broken. There is something rattling around inside the decanter.
Fonctions : Given to donor on the occasion of his wedding April 1st, 1940 at St. Patrick's Church, Esplanade, Sydney. Donor was married 55 years. His wife died in 1995. Given by members of Donor's unit - 6th Heavy Battery Royal Canadian Artillery. Mr. Joseph's troop transport was torpedoed en route to Europe. He suffered a severe back injury and has no recollection of the incident. Mr. Joseph was born in Sydney on June 26, 1910. He was an altar boy at St. Patrick's church. He is a dedicated volunteer and kind man who has received National Recognition for his service and good deeds in Cape Breton.
