Description : | A yellow advertising button that reads, "Londonderry Heirs/ 1759/ 1983 in black. |
Commentaires : | Celluloid buttons, first used in 1896, are made by one side of a metal disc being covered with paper printed with the message and then protected with a layer of clear plastic. 'Londonderry Heirs' refers to the Scotch-Irish people that settled the communities of Truro, Onslow and Londonderry around 1760 ca. There is a book titled "Londonderry Heirs: A story of the settlement of the townships of Truro, Onslow, and Londonderry" by. J M Murphy. These Buttons were constructed in the Butler Center (now know as the Colchester Community Workshop) and probably given away as part of a historical commemorative campaign by the town of Truro. Truro's CCW advertises itself as a vocational training center for adults with a handicap or disability. The buttons made there are custom designed to promote organizations or events. Customers can order 1 1/2", 2 1/4" and 3" round buttons, as well as, 1 3/4"x2 1/4" oblong buttons. |
