Commentaires : | This photograph was recovered from debris going to the Truro dump, from the Truro High School building, being renovated in 1978. This photograph (1 of 7) was given to the Colchester County Academy, by the Scotia Chapter. The photograph was used, and then stored in the school basement. The Ingonish Chapter paid the cost of replacing glass, mats, etc., so pictures could go on exhibit at the Colchester Historical Museum.; This painting hangs in the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa. The original paintings hang in the Senate Chamber of the Parliament of Canada in Ottawa, the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa and in the Memorial Hall in Hillsborough, New Brunswick. The pictures were saved by Gordon Kinsman when the school was torn down. |
Fonctions : | Alfred Theodore Joseph Bastien was born in Belgium but was assigned to the Canadian 22 Battalion. Georges Vanier, who would later become the Governor General of Canada, later claimed he was the man with the pistol in this painting. Gradually rising through the ranks, he earned decorations for bravery along the way and even briefly commanded the battalion. Vanier joined the Canadian 22 in 1915 and gradually rose through the ranks to be a major, earing decorations for bravery. |
