Description : | Aerial view of Debert Colchester County, Native Community Excavation 1964. The earliest discovered evidence of prehistoric man in eastern Canada came from Debert archaeological site and dated about 8600 B.C. These People survived by a hunting economy reflected by the predominance of hunting and butchering implements excavated at the Debert site. Their stone tool technology was highly sophisticated and gave rise to the production of a wide variety of specialized tools for various wood and bone tool manufacturing professions. The distinctive "pinkish" colored stone around many of the debert implements is known as "Chalcedony" and was mined from Quarries along the north shore of the Minas Basin from Five Islands to beyond Parrsboro some 60 miles from Debert. |
