Description : | Truro Daily News Office The Doane brothers sold in 1911 after news office burned; From left to right are: F.A. Doane; A.R. Coffin; Mary Coffin; --- W.D. Dimock; Rev. J Aikens; J.F. Coffin. For well over a century, people of Truro and Colchester County have received their news, both local and foreign, from The Truro Daily News organization. The Truro Daily News was launched on 19 January, 1891, and after a few hectic months, was taken over by Frank A. and John Doane. The Truro Weekly News was started by Frank Doane in 1892, and it continued as a rural paper until the 1970`s. Three other long time partners joined the staff in the 1890`s and Doane Brothers Printing Company was amalgamated to form `The News Publishing Company`` with W.D. Dimock, editor; F.A. Doane, manager of job printing department; J.W. Doane, mechanical superintendant; J.F. Coffin, book keeper; and A.R. Coffin, advertising and subscription manager. This picture, taken inside The Truro Daily News Office shows, from left to right, Frank Doane, A.R Coffin, Mary Coffin (J.F Coffin`s daughter), W.D. Dimock, Rev J. Aikens (a contributor) and J.F. Coffin, attending to his accounts under the calendar featuring King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. Note the Intercolonial Railway timetable and the up to date telephone on the wall. |
