Description : Mailing tube addressed  to Mrs. E.D.Lockhart, 32 Leymour St, Halifax, NS. Mail stamped with a date of Aug 4, 1921 containing two death scrolls, one being stamped Buckingham Palace, signed George R.I. Three other papers are included: ancestry.ca paper; paper from Find-A-Grave and the soldier's Attestation papers.
Commentaires : Mailing tube addressed  to Mrs. E.D.Lockhart, 32 Leymour St, Halifax, NS. Mail stamped with a date of Aug 4, 1921. Contents are: two death scrolls, one being stamped Buckingham Palace, signed George R.I. Three other papers are included: ancestry.ca paper; paper from Find-A-Grave detailing location of the soldier's memorial site in Belgium; Private Lockhart's Attestation Paper from the Canadian Over Seas Expeditionary Force. Private Lockhart enlisted at age 24 on 23 Sept., 1914 Valcartier Village, Quebec. He died at age 25 on 22 April, 1915 West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Particulars on the certificate read: 'On or since 22-4-1915' - Reported missing, presumed to have died during attack in the vicinity of St. Julien. Cause of Death: Probably died during chlorine gas attacks by German soldiers in the Battle of Gravenstafel Ridge (22-23 April) or Battle of St Julien (24 April-5 May). Pte. Lockhart, brother of the donors great-uncle, was born in India in 1890, but his parents were from Cheverie. His father was the captain of a ship and he later died in South Africa. He enlisted in the army in Valcartier, PQ in September 1914 and was reported missing in April 1915 in West Flanders, Belgium. His memorial site is the Menin Gate Memorial as his body was never found. Pte. Lockharts artifacts were sent to his mother and later given to his brother, the donors Uncle Dennie. They were at the donors old home and when her mother died she inherited them.
