Description : | Child's dark wooden rocking chair, with ladder back. There are three wide slats, curved on the top edge, with Ruth written on the top slat. The front and back legs, and the front stretcher are hand carved to resemble turned pieces. The side stretchers are rectangular. The seat is woven strips of wood. The woven part loops around the seat structure. There are carved knobs at the top of the posts. |
Commentaires : | The chair was made and hand-carved by David Wylie Long (1883-1943) for his daughter Ruth. Long was born in White Rock, Kings County, and married Jennie Ester Nowlin (1891-1977) from Black River, Kings County. Her parents were Charles Nowlin and Amanda Schofield. Long and his wife are buried in Black River Cemetery. |
