| Description : | A pair of stockings which are knitted silk to mid-calf and cotton to the top. The toe and heel are padded cotton. They have intials at the top, embroidered in cross-stitch using red cotton. They have clocking on the outer side of each ankle. |
| Commentaires : | Clocking is a form of embroidery on stockings from the 17th Century- 19th Century as a way of embellishing men and woman`s stockings. The decoration was applied to the ankle area and seen when the ankle was exposed. |
| Fonctions : | These stockings belonged to the donor`s grandmother and are probably of English manufacture. |
