| Description : | Ox yoke and arrow-back wood rocking chair. The back has a wide cresting rail with carved loops out of each side The top rail is pegged into the posts. The posts are splayed and curved back. The four curved-back stiles are turned at the top, and then arrow-shaped, and pegged into the seat and top rail. The seat is saddle-shaped. The legs are splayed and turned. There are simply turned box stretchers. The rectangular rockers into which legs are pegged are gently curved, extending beyond back. The seat is softwood, the rods, stiles, and legs hardwood. The chair has been stripped. There are traces of ochre finish A black and white photograph accompanies accession sheet. |
