Description : | A table radio that is in a plastic case. The body is brown while the front of the case is beige in color. There is a large round dial in the centre with numbers going from left to right: 55, 60, 70, 90, 10, 12, 14, and 16 all in gold lettering. In the middle of the dial is a brass indicator with a red point. The name of the manufacturer is printed in gold lettering underneath the brass indicator. There are also two small circular dials, golden in color, in the lower left and right hand corners. There is no back on the radio leaving the inner workings exposed. |
Fonctions : | The radio is a Baby Champ Electric Model 5500 that was made in Canada by the Northern Electric Co. Ltd. This model has a built-in antenna, a speedometer dial, and is also equipped with a phono-jack and a phono/radio switch. It was available in a variety of colors including green, blue, ivory, rose, brown, and white and had 6AM stations to choose from. During the 1950s radios were popular sources of entertainment as well as a way for sharing important community and world news. |
